A SHORT GUIDE FOR WIVES
Prayers for my husband.
You share a house, a table, and a life you cannot manage for him. You can still bring him before God by name—for faith, for the work of his hands, and for the ordinary Tuesday.

“they two shall be one flesh.”
Ephesians 5:31 · KJV (excerpt)
You see him when the guests have gone home. You see the way he carries a job, a bill, a hard word from one of the children. Daily prayer for your husband is not a project to improve him. It is how you take the man you love to the God who already knows him.
You do not need eloquent words. You do not need to wait for a crisis. If you are a Christian wife wondering how to pray for your husband—whether the house is peaceful or strained—this is a simple place to begin.
Why pray for your husband
Marriage gives you a view no one else has. You notice the weight he will not name at church. You hear the sigh after a long day. Intercession is a way of loving him when you cannot change the morning in front of him.
“let your requests be made known unto God.”
Philippians 4:6 · KJV (excerpt)
Prayer is not a lecture in disguise. It is not a way to win an argument you have already had in the kitchen. It is placing him in better hands than yours, and asking God to do what only He can do.
You can tell the Lord the fear you would not say out loud. He already knows it. Bring the gratitude too: a kindness, a joke at the table, a quiet faithfulness no one else saw.
What to pray for
You do not need a long list. A few honest requests, spoken by name, are enough. Return to them as the days unfold.
For his faith
Ask God to keep him close to Jesus in the decisions no one else sees. If he already loves the Lord, pray that he would stay steady—not only on Sunday, but in the small choices. If faith is thin, tired, or far away, say so plainly. Ask God to draw him. Salvation is God’s work. You ask. You wait. You keep loving.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 · KJV
For work and provision
The job, the bills, the work of his hands. Ask God to give him wisdom, honesty, and enough for the household. Pray for the people he works with, and for courage to do what is right when it would be easier not to. You can pray this on a quiet morning without waiting for a layoff or a late invoice.
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Proverbs 16:3 · KJV
For his health
Ask God to give him rest, strength for the day, and wisdom to care for the body he has been given. Bring the tiredness, the ache, the appointment on the calendar. Do not treat prayer as a guarantee of a particular outcome. Cover the ordinary care of sleep, food, and pace, and leave what you cannot control with the Lord.
For integrity and temptation
Pray that he would be the same man in private that he is at home. Ask God to guard his eyes, his words, and his friendships. Temptation is not only dramatic. It is also a small compromise that looks harmless on a Thursday. Ask for a clean conscience and the courage to turn aside.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Matthew 6:13 · KJV (excerpt)
For leadership and patience
Pray that he would lead with humility, not harshness. Patience with you. Patience with the children. Patience with himself. Ask God to make him slow to anger and ready to listen. Strength in a house often looks like gentleness.
“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.”
Ephesians 4:2 · KJV
For your marriage and friendship
Pray for kindness in ordinary talk. For friendship as well as duty. For the two of you to be companions, not only people who share a calendar. Ask God to restore warmth where it has gone thin, and to help you both speak with grace when you disagree.
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind.”
1 Corinthians 13:4 · KJV (excerpt)
For his relationships with the children
If you have children at home or grown, pray that he would be present, patient, and a blessing to them. Ask for time that is not hurried. If a relationship is strained, ask God to make a way for repair that you cannot force. You may also be praying for grown sons and daughters by name; that is a good companion to this habit.
A few words if you need them
Use these as a starting point. Change the name. Keep going in your own words. The Father is not grading your sentences.
FOR HIS WALK WITH JESUS
A prayer for his faith
Father, I bring [Name] before You. You love him more than I do. Keep him close to Your Son, Jesus. Where faith is tired, renew it. Where he is far from You, draw him. Give me patience while I wait, and help me to speak with grace. Amen.
FOR THE WORK IN FRONT OF HIM
A prayer for work and provision
Lord, You see the work [Name] will do today. Give him wisdom, honesty, and a quiet mind. Provide what our household needs, and help him to trust You with what he cannot finish. Guard him from shortcuts that would cost his peace. Amen.
FOR THE TWO OF YOU
A prayer for your marriage
Father, thank You for [Name]. Make us kind in ordinary talk. Help us to be friends as well as husband and wife. Soften the places where we have grown sharp or distant. Teach us to forgive quickly, and to cover one another in love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A five-minute daily habit
You do not need an hour. You need a time you will actually keep.
Pick a quiet moment—morning coffee, a lunch walk, or the last few minutes before sleep. Speak his name. Ask for one thing. Write a short note of what you asked. When God answers—even a small opening, a kinder tone, a door you did not expect—give thanks and keep the memory close.
“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.”
Colossians 4:2 · KJV
Some wives keep a notebook. Others set a reminder on the phone so the day does not run past them. Cover Them is a private iPhone and iPad app for this same habit: add your husband by name, return to him in a short daily moment, and record answered prayers with his story so you remember God’s faithfulness while you wait.
When you do not know what to say, start with his name and what you already believe: God made him. Jesus is enough. The Spirit can reach a heart you cannot. Then be still.
A few cautions, offered gently
Do not treat prayer as a way to control him. Prayer is how you place him in better hands than yours.
Do not pray only in crisis. The ordinary day is a good day to cover him. And if a conversation is given to you, let your words be few and gracious. You are not his Holy Spirit. You are his wife, still standing with him before God.
Pray for your own heart too: for patience, for a quiet tongue, for love that does not keep score. The same Father who hears you about him also hears you about yourself.

Ask God to keep him close to Jesus in the decisions no one else sees. If he already loves the Lord, pray that he would stay steady. If faith is thin or distant, ask God to draw him. Salvation is God’s work; your part is to keep asking and keep loving.
